Boston reality capture
Boston puts cutting-edge labs inside centuries-old buildings.
Greater Boston holds a contradiction that makes reality capture unusually valuable here. It is the top life-sciences cluster on earth, where lab build-outs demand precision to the millimeter, and it also holds some of the oldest building stock in the country, where nothing is square and no two floors match. A lab in a converted brick mill needs both truths documented at once. A scan is the only practical way to capture the tight tolerances and the crooked reality in a single pass.
Why do lab build-outs live or die on the as-built?
Kendall Square in Cambridge and the Seaport are the dense center of the world's leading life-sciences market, and the pipeline of lab build-outs and conversions does not slow down. A single project can be enormous, on the scale of AstraZeneca's roughly five hundred seventy thousand square foot Kendall Square R&D center. Lab space is defined by its systems: process piping, fume exhaust, chilled water, high-density power, all packed tight above the ceiling where a few inches of conflict stops the work.
A scan captures every run of that mechanical, electrical, and plumbing exactly where it sits, so coordination happens against reality rather than a hopeful drawing. Our scan-to-BIM service turns the capture into a coordinated model, and the MEP trades that live and die on those tolerances are the audience we speak to on our MEP contractors page.
Old buildings, exact records.
Boston has some of the oldest building stock in the United States, and a great deal of new work happens inside it. A firm renovating a nineteenth-century structure cannot trust the original drawings, if any survive, because centuries of changes have moved everything. Scanning the building as it stands gives an exact, measured base for design, and it protects the character detail that makes the building worth keeping.
Our historic preservation scanning records ornament, masonry, and structure at high resolution, and our building and interior scanning documents the full interior so the design team works from the real thing.
A campus city, always under renovation.
Greater Boston has one of the densest concentrations of universities in the world, and those campuses mix modern research buildings with historic halls that are renovated on a rolling basis. Facilities teams need accurate as-builts to plan lab conversions, classroom upgrades, and system replacements without opening walls and ceilings to guess at what is behind them.
A scan gives a facilities department a measured record of a building it can reuse for every future project, and our building and interior scanning produces it in a single visit.
How we cover the Greater Boston metro.
We do not keep an office in Boston. We serve the metro through a nationwide network of vetted reality-capture technicians, and we produce and stand behind the deliverable ourselves. No local crew claim, no trucks in Kendall Square, no same-day promise. A scan done right and a deliverable our team is accountable for.
Published prices.
| Deliverable | Price |
|---|---|
| Half-day scan (capture) | $1,500 to $2,300 to start |
| Full-day scan (capture) | $3,500 to $4,100 to start |
| Modeling from the scan | $0.10 / sq ft ($500 min) |
Capture is the scan itself. Modeling is priced by the square footage we turn into a deliverable. Tell us the site and what you need out of it, and we quote it directly.
