A manufacturing town and a 19th-century one, both worth measuring.

Cincinnati holds two building problems at once. It is a consumer-goods and aerospace manufacturing hub, home to Procter and Gamble and the GE Aerospace engine operations in the metro, where the parts on the floor need to match the drawing to the thousandth. It is also the city that kept Over-the-Rhine standing, one of the largest intact districts of 19th-century Italianate architecture in the country, where the building itself is the record worth keeping. We capture both.

What does a manufacturing town need from a scanner?

Two things, mostly. When a machined part or a casting has to prove it holds tolerance, a scan turns the physical part into a point cloud you compare against the CAD model, so every deviation shows up as color on the surface instead of a handful of caliper readings. That is dimensional inspection, and on aerospace and consumer-goods lines it is the difference between shipping and scrapping.

The other case is the part that has no drawing left. An old tool, a legacy fixture, a component from a supplier who is gone. Scanning it and rebuilding a clean, editable CAD model from the cloud is reverse engineering, and it is how a Cincinnati shop keeps a line running when the original geometry lives only in the metal.

Over-the-Rhine is a record worth keeping.

The Italianate storefronts and tenements of Over-the-Rhine were built before anyone drew them to scale, and a century and a half of settling, renovation, and adaptive reuse has moved every line since. A laser scan captures the facade and the interior as they actually stand today, ornament and all, which is exactly what a rehab architect, a preservation board, or an owner needs before touching the building. That is historic preservation scanning.

The same capture feeds ordinary renovation and leasing work across the riverfront and downtown. A measured record of walls, floors, and ceilings becomes building and interior documentation a design team can build from without guessing at a wall that was never square to begin with.
